A Dream
I had a dream
last night,
In the dream there was a dragon
A dragon with red scales and blue eyes
And sharp teeth
Though his sharpest teeth were not in his mouth but in his mind
With the dragon
There was a man
Who was a servant or a treasure
It is hard to tell
With dragons
Maybe
He was both
The man, who was a servant and a treasure
Of a dragon
Told me a story
A story about his first love
And the dragon listened as I listened
When the man, who was a servant and a treasure, told us
About the price
The price for the life of his love
The dragon smiled with sharp teeth
Because trading a snack
(A woman that was neither a princess nor a virgin)
For a man with emerald eyes
A man that would be his servant and his treasure
For years and years and years
Was no hardship
Gentle and greedy
The Dragon touched him
Leaving red marks on him
For a gentle dragon
Still hurts a human
But the man who was a servant and a treasure smiled
Being a dragons servant and treasure
He said
Is better than having to bow for a human
Because a dragon may be cruel
But would never break a treasure
Or throw it
Away
Later I told them my story
For it was polite
And required
By the logic of a dream
I told them about the fire
And my parents
Who died in the fire
And my brother
Who is still dieing
Slowly and painfully
Even if the fire
That destroyed my family
Is long gone
I told them how
My brother
Tries to extinguish
The fire in his heart
With blood
I told them how
He is used
I told them that I have been
Dreaming since the evil king
Cast the fire
To destroy my family
When I was done
I asked the dragon
If he would find an other dragon
(Because every dragon has only one priced possession and this dragon had already found his)
Who would keep my brother
As a treasure
Yes
He said
And that he was hungry now
I smiled
My brother
My beloved brother
Will be a treasure
For a dragon
And I’ll be food
For an other one
I breathed with relief
The man who was a servant and a treasure
Looked at me
With understanding eyes
He told me
That it wouldn’t hurt for long
I wouldn’t care if it did
I just wanted to stop dreaming
And finally I will
